Ladro has two locations, one in Fitzroy and the other in Prahran. I recently visited the Fitzroy one, located at 224 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, and we had a great time.
Firstly, I was a bit excited to see that they had mocktails for those currently participating in Dry July. My wife and I are both participating this year, with funds raised going to the Royal Children’s Hospital. If you’d like to donate to our team, you can do so here. We’d really appreciate it. It was nice to be able to lie to ourselves that we were having a nice fruity cocktail while we enjoyed our dinner.
It was enjoyable. Their garlic and herb pizzetta was a great starter to share, crisp thin base with enough garlic goodness to ruin an episode of True Blood. For the main we opted for the Badabing, with tomato, provolone, pork sausage, oregano, chilli and basil. When we ordered we had confirmed that the pizza wasn’t overly spicy. It’s probably a little ironic then that while the chilli wasn’t that hot, I still managed to burn my lip on the cheese. Darn my overeagerness to get into that pizza. That said though, they do serve an excellent thin crust pizza.
Not only are they open every Monday, but they also have a BYO Charity special where the $5 corkage gets donated to the local Vinnies mobile soup van to help feed the local disadvantaged. It’s great to see a local place that not only is open on what is generally the hospo weekend, but also helping others.
